What to see and do in Huerto

Huerto
Village
Huerto is a municipality in the comarca of Los Monegros, in the province of Huesca, 32 km from Huesca, whose municipal area also includes the settlements of Usón and Venta de Ballerías. In Muslim times the population lived on the rocky rise where the castle stands today, built in the 12th century, which was conquered around 1097 by Peter I of Aragon; the victory over the Muslims of Huerto and Los Monegros is still commemorated every 8 May, in a pilgrimage that reaches the octagonal hermitage of Saint Dominic of Guzmán. In 1651, according to popular belief, the Virgin of the Jarea delivered the population of Usón from the plague, and it still worships her during Holy Week. During the Civil War, a bombing raid by the Nationalist side caused eleven deaths among the civilian population in 1937.
Church of Huerto
Monument

Festivities of Huerto
Activity
The patronal festivities of Huerto are celebrated from 4 to 7 August in honor of Santo Domingo de Guzmán, keeping that date even though the Church moved his feast day to 8 August; they include a pilgrimage to the saint's octagonal hermitage.
