What to see and do in Antillón

Antillón
Village
Antillón is a municipality in the Hoya de Huesca documented from the beginning of 1104, when it appears in a concord between the bishop of Huesca and the abbot of Montearagón. It preserves remains of the medieval walls with which Christians and Muslims fortified it, today declared a Bien de Interés Cultural (Spain's highest level of heritage protection), in an old quarter of narrow, steep streets; an old bread oven, a wash-house and a Romanesque fountain also remain. Its population has fallen from 450 inhabitants in 1900 to 127 today, sustained now by livestock farming, above all sheep, agriculture and wine production. It celebrates its main festivals on 8 September, in honour of the Natividad de la Virgen, and a pilgrimage to the sanctuary of the Virgen del Pueyo, in Barbastro, on the last Friday of April.

Monument
The parish church of Antillón, at the top of the town center and aligned with the old town wall, dates from the 16th century, in Aragonese Gothic style, although it preserves remains of an earlier Romanesque church.
