What to see and do in Salillas

Salillas
Village
Salillas, with 94 inhabitants, sits on the slope of a small rise beside the río Guatizalema, in the Huescan comarca of the Hoya de Huesca; in Aragonese, the language in which it is also called Saliellas, it is documented from early 1104, in the concord between the bishop of Huesca and the abbot of Montearagón. It preserves the Gothic church of Santa Ana, a Renaissance palace of the former local seigneury, and, at the entrance to the village, a snow well of Morisco origin with a distinctive vault of crossed arches. Beside the river also stands the Burjamán mill, “tower of pardon” in Arabic, which drew its water through a channel of about three kilometres. The festival is celebrated on 26 May, in honour of San Felipe Neri, and on 26 July, in honour of Santa Ana.
