What to see and do in Pertusa

Pertusa
Village
Pertusa is a municipality in the province of Huesca, in the Hoya de Huesca comarca, with 129 inhabitants, set in a natural amphitheatre on the left bank of the río Alcanadre. Mentioned as a mansio in the Antonine Itinerary, it was a resting station for the legions on the Roman road linking Osca and Ilerda. Documented again in 1106, it became the seat of an old barony after being reconquered around 1100 by Peter I of Aragon. In gratitude for the good treatment received on the way to Catalonia, Philip II sent to the village the same architect who was building El Escorial to raise the tower attached to the parish church. It preserves the Romanesque church of Santa María, completed in 1182, that Herrerian tower of 1575 and a Roman bridge over the Alcanadre.
