Biscarrués
Village
Biscarrués is a municipality in the Hoya de Huesca comarca, in the natural region of La Galliguera, in the valley of the río Gállego, north of the Ardisa reservoir. Documented from 1083 as Sancta Maria de Biscarruesse, it groups together with the capital the settlements of Erés and Piedramorrera and has 188 inhabitants. In 1381 King Juan I of Aragon sold the town to the monastery of Montearagón, and in 1930 Fermín Galán surrendered here to the mayor after the Jaca uprising. In 2020 the Supreme Court upheld the annulment of the reservoir project that threatened its territory. It preserves the parish church of la Asunción, from the 18th century, with a 12th-century tower, and 16th-century wayside crosses, among them the Cruz de la Balsa, with bas-reliefs of the life of San Pelayo.
