What to see and do in Ballobar

Ballobar
Village
Ballobar is a municipality in the Bajo Cinca, in Huesca, situated on the right bank of the river Alcanadre, near where it joins the Cinca before the Ribarroja reservoir. Its lordship changed hands several times in the Middle Ages: in 1212 Peter II gave it to the monastery of Sijena, in 1268 James I sold it to the countess of Urgell, in 1273 it passed to Geraldo de Cabrera, and in 1295 it returned to the royal domain. From its Andalusi past it preserves the La Forza enclosure, as well as a medieval bridge over the Alcanadre of possible Roman origin. According to Madoz, in 1830 the village had 360 houses, two squares and a school with sixty boys and thirty girls. The local speech has been documented by Amparo-Ángeles Soler Betés. It celebrates its festival on 15 August, in honour of the Assumption and Saint Roch. It has 862 inhabitants.
