What to see and do in Llutxent

Llutxent
Village
Llutxent is a municipality in the comarca of La Vall d'Albaida, in the province of Valencia, situated in a basin crossed from north to south by the Pinet river, between the foothills of the Sierra del Buscarró and the Sierra Marchuquera, whose highest point, the Puig-Agut, reaches 593 metres. Its name comes from Latin, from the Roman settlement of Pagu Lucianu that existed on the site. In the natural area of El Surar, the southernmost cork-oak reserve in the Valencian Community is preserved. Tradition places here the origin of the miracle of the Corporals of Daroca, which occurred in 1239; in that area the Dominicans founded the Monastery of Corpus Christi in the 15th century, whose Mediterranean Gothic basilica was declared a Monumento Nacional (a former heritage-protection category, now equivalent to Bien de Interés Cultural) in 1982. It has 2,314 inhabitants (INE 2025).
The miracle of the Corporales of Daroca
Historical milestone
According to tradition, during a skirmish against the Muslims in 1239 the priest hid the consecrated hosts under some corporals, and they appeared stained with blood. The relics ended up in Daroca and the episode gave rise to the local cult.
The Corpus Christi Monastery
Historical milestone
Founded in the 15th century by Dominican friars on the site of the miracle of the Corporales, it preserves a Mediterranean Gothic basilica declared a monumento histórico-artístico (Monumento Histórico-Artístico, Spain's heritage designation in force between 1931 and 1985) in 1982. It dominates the area from a hill on the edge of the village.
