Montitxelvo
Village
Montitxelvo is a municipality of the Valencian Vall d'Albaida, on the border with the province of Alicante, dominated to the south by the heights of Penyes Albes, within the Prebetic anticline of the Sierras de Benicadell and Ador. In 1343 Peter the Ceremonious granted the town, with high and low jurisdiction, to Vidal de Vilanova, and the lordship later passed to the Mercader family, who in 1533 obtained the title of barons of Montichelvo. The expulsion of the Moriscos in 1609 left the town almost depopulated, with only thirty-two inhabited houses in 1646; it did not regain some demographic momentum until the 18th century, and by 1900 it already had 819 inhabitants. It preserves the aqueduct of the Arcada del Planet, from the 15th century.
