What to see and do in Benissuera

Benissuera
Village
Benissuera, of Muslim origin, is the smallest municipality of the Valencian Vall d'Albaida, on the left bank of the Albaida river, whose waters irrigate onions, cereals and fruit trees, while the dry-farmed land is devoted to vines, cereals and olives. In the 15th century it belonged to the Bellvís family, whose lordship was dependent on Bèlgida and whose coat of arms appears on the town's shield, and it later passed to the counts of Casal. The expulsion of the Moriscos in 1609 affected its demography, which recovered in the 18th century only to fall again in the 20th due to emigration towards Alfarrasí; today it has around 194 inhabitants, of whom more than 96% speak Valencian. It preserves the church of San José, from the 17th century, and the Palau dels Bellvís, today uninhabited and in urgent need of restoration.
