What to see and do in Bellús

Bellús
Village
Bellús is one of the smallest municipalities of La Vall d'Albaida, in the province of Valencia, with 317 inhabitants (2025), situated in the valley of the Albaida river, which marks its boundary with Benigánim. Francesc Bellvís granted a settlement charter to 33 settlers on 11 June 1611, and his palace, els Bellvís, is preserved next to the parish church dedicated to Santa Ana. Next to the reservoir built in 1995 on the course of the Albaida, covering 703 hectares and used for irrigation and flood control besides fishing and recreation, it preserves a neo-Gothic hermitage from 1935, the third on the same site since the one documented in 1791, and the Cova de la Petxina, with cave paintings, now a small museum. Its patron saint festivities, in honour of Santa Ana and the Cristo de la Buena Muerte, are held on the third weekend of September.

Hermitage of Bellús
Monument

Reservoir of Bellús
Nature
The Bellús reservoir lies between the municipalities of Bellús and Benigánim, on the course of the Albaida river, and belongs to the Confederación Hidrográfica del Júcar. Built in 1995, it covers an area of 703 hectares with a maximum capacity of 69 cubic hectometres, and its purpose is to store water for irrigation and to attenuate floods. Its waters are of poor quality, since the Albaida first flows through industrial areas that discharge into its course. Despite this it is popular for fishing, mainly small common carp and pumpkinseed sunfish. In September 2025 an improvement in its actual storage capacity was announced.
