Vilallonga
Village
Villalonga, Vilallonga in Valencian, is a municipality in the comarca of La Safor, in the province of Valencia, on the northern slopes of the sierra de la Safor, with the Serpis river running through its valley. The Castell dels Moros, a castle of Muslim origin, stands on the hill of Les Fontanelles, with rammed-earth walls, a battlemented section and a cistern with a vault marked by cane imprints. Jaume I conquered the territory in 1240 and granted it to Diego López III de Haro; after the Morisco expulsion of 1609, it was repopulated under the 1612 settlement charter. The parish church of the Holy Kings was built in 1719 and opened in 1757. Its economy rests on olives and rain-fed fruit trees, irrigated citrus, and the food and ceramics industries. In 2025 it has 4,865 inhabitants.
