What to see and do in Palma de Gandía

Palma de Gandía
Village
Palma de Gandía, in the Safor, historically formed part of the jurisdiction and the duchy of neighbouring Gandía; it now has 1,897 inhabitants. The oldest signs of human occupation, from the early Metal Age, are found in the Cova Bernarda, with an Eneolithic burial and Iberian material in its upper levels. It preserves the church of Saint Michael the Archangel, a 14th-century parish temple, among the oldest in the Safor, as well as the weir and aqueduct of the Arcada, a hydraulic work testifying to the traditional use of water in the comarca. Its economy rests on irrigated orange groves, and it forms part of the Route of the Monasteries of Valencia and the Way of El Cid; its main festivals are held in the last week of August.
