Rafelcofer
Village
Rafelcofer is a municipality of the Safor (Valencia), with 1,409 inhabitants in just 3.5 km², set on the plain of the Serpis river valley. Its name comes from the Arabic rahal, which designates an agricultural estate or alquería, a settlement form very common in Valencian toponymy since Andalusi times. The municipal territory preserves the Iberian site of El Rabat, one of the comarca's most important for the quantity of remains found, and nearby, next to the hermitage of Saint Michael, stones with Latin inscriptions and Roman-era pottery have appeared. The old Motor de San Diego, an irrigation facility now repurposed, works as the municipal archaeological museum.
