Llocnou de Sant Jeroni
Village
A municipality of the Safor, in the province of Valencia, situated in the valley of the Vernisa river, between the sierras of Marchuquera and Ador, with streets built on the right bank of the river. Its predecessor was the Mudéjar place of Rafalet de Bonamira, granted in 1420 to the monks of Saint Jerome of Cotalba, who refounded it on 8 December 1609 with 15 houses for Old Christians, a century after the original Rafalet had been depopulated of its Moriscos. The new lordship was successively named Lloc nou de Bonamira, Lloc nou dels frares and, finally, Llocnou de Sant Jeroni. With 6.5 km² and about 594 inhabitants, it is one of the smallest municipalities in the Safor; its Spanish name, Lugar Nuevo de San Jerónimo, was officially replaced by the Valencian one in 1984.
