What to see and do in Sinarcas

Sinarcas
Village
Sinarcas is a municipality of La Plana de Utiel-Requena, in the province of Valencia, with 1,176 inhabitants (INE 2025), which appears as Arcas in the Iberian and Roman periods, owing to its proximity to an important sanctuary; it came to be called Cenarcas under the rule of the Zenete Moors and was fixed with its current name after the Christian conquest by Peter II of Aragon, in the 13th century. Situated on a plain between the sierra de Utiel, that of Campo Melchor, and the Serranía de Cuenca, it preserves a small hoard of Arab gold coins from the Islamic period, which lasted almost five centuries. It has a 17th-century church, the ermita de San Marcos, from the 16th century, four kilometres from the village and the destination of a pilgrimage on the last Saturday of April, and an ecomuseum dedicated to the traditional way of life of the comarca.

Ecomuseum of Traditional Housing of Sinarcas
Monument

Every detail has been carefully arranged to show visitors what the dwelling was like, as well as the way of life of a farming family in the late 19th century.
Festivities of Sinarcas
Activity
Main festivities of Sinarcas in honour of San Roque and Santa Úrsula, with a pilgrimage to San Marcos on the last Saturday of April. The main festivities are held during the last week of August. The pilgrimage to the hermitage of San Marcos, organised by the village's quintos (young conscripts), brings the villagers together for a big, traditional day with a countryside meal and dancing on the threshing floor, as part of a whole week of festivities dedicated to this saint.
Huevin de Sinarcas
Activity

Old Flour Factory of Sinarcas
Monument
A flour mill built in 1935 by Ángel Palomares Jiménez. After the Spanish Civil War, in 1941, it was acquired by the Cañizares family, who had a milling tradition in the area since the 18th century. It remained in operation until the late 1980s and, after its closure, became the property of the Sinarcas Town Council, which today preserves the building.
Hermitage of San Marcos de Sinarcas
Monument
A chapel dating from the 16th century, located about four kilometres from Sinarcas towards Casillas de Ranera. It is the destination of a massive and typical pilgrimage in honour of Saint Mark, organised by the young men of the village doing their quintos, which includes a countryside meal and dancing on the threshing floor, within a week of festivities that keeps this local tradition alive.
