What to see and do in Vinalesa

Vinalesa
Village
Vinalesa is a municipality of 3,572 inhabitants (INE 2025) located in the Huerta Norte of the province of Valencia, about 8 km north of the capital, within the historic Huerta de Valencia. Its place name comes from the Arabic Ben Aleza. The flat municipal area, of barely 1.59 km², sits on a fertile alluvial plain formed by the Turia river and the Carraixet ravine, which borders it to the east; it is crossed by the Royal Ditch of Moncada, which crosses the ravine by means of a siphon of notable engineering. Irrigated agriculture, traditionally dominated by market-garden crops, occupies much of the municipal area, though it is giving ground to urban growth. The town preserves its old silk factory, of notable importance in Valencian industrialization in the 18th and 19th centuries.
Old Silk Factory of Vinalesa
Monument
The former silk factory of Vinalesa, of notable importance in the Valencian industrialisation process of the 18th and 19th centuries, was founded in 1770 by the Frenchman Joseph Lapayesse, who harnessed the power of the water of the Moncada irrigation canal by means of a waterwheel. In 1821 it passed into the hands of the firm Combe y Cía, which introduced a steam engine to heat the water, and in the mid-19th century the Trénor family converted it to produce jute and sacks. Today, with no factory activity, the building serves as a social and municipal centre.
Festivities of Vinalesa
Activity
Vinalesa celebrates San Honorato, its patron saint, twice a year: on the 14th of October and in January, festivities organized by the group of residents turning fifty, who gather throughout the year for lunches and dinners to prepare the celebration.
