Old Silk Factory of Vinalesa Monument · Vinalesa, L'Horta Nord, Valencia The former silk factory of Vinalesa, of notable importance in the Valencian industrialisation process of the 18th and 19th centuries, was founded in 1770 by the Frenchman Joseph Lapayesse, who harnessed the power of the water of the Moncada irrigation canal by means of a waterwheel. In 1821 it passed into the hands of the firm Combe y Cía, which introduced a steam engine to heat the water, and in the mid-19th century the Trénor family converted it to produce jute and sacks. Today, with no factory activity, the building serves as a social and municipal centre. Photo: Wikimedia Commons (CC BY-SA 3.0) What to see and do in Vinalesa
