What to see and do in Loriguilla

Loriguilla
Village
Loriguilla is one of the smallest municipalities in the comarca of El Camp de Túria, in the province of Valencia, split in two by the Loriguilla reservoir: the new village, in the Camp de Túria, and the original municipal territory, partly submerged, which belonged to the comarca of Los Serranos. The Turia river, which flows at an average height of 300 metres, has carved a deep valley within its territory that at times becomes a gorge. Although there is no reliable evidence about its founding, everything points to a Roman origin in the 1st century AD; a tombstone found in 1790 bears a funerary inscription from that period.
Reservoir of Loriguilla
Nature
The Loriguilla reservoir, completed in 1965 on the river Turia between the municipalities of Chulilla and Loriguilla, covers a maximum surface area of 364 hectares and has a capacity of 71 cubic hectometres; much used in summer for swimming and for fishing large carp. Its construction forced the relocation of the towns of Loriguilla and Domeño, whose most fertile land was flooded. As well as supplying urban and irrigation water, it feeds the Central Hidroeléctrica de Chulilla, located at the foot of the dam, of gravity type with a curved plan, 57.50 metres high above the riverbed and 198 metres long at the crest.
