What to see and do in L'Eliana

L'Eliana
Village
L'Eliana is a municipality in the comarca of El Camp de Túria, on the left bank of the Turia river and north of the city of Valencia, at 93 metres of altitude, with about 19,800 inhabitants. Its name comes from an old Carmelite chapel dedicated to the prophet Elijah, whom the order regarded as its founder. In 1595 Miguel de Carranza, prior of the Carmelites of the convent of Valencia, bought from Jaume Cherta the land on which the town stands today, to build a rest house for the friars, called Masía de Eliana, the origin of the settlement. The friars devoted themselves here to agriculture, growing vines, olives, wheat and rice, and the estate became one of the most important of the order, with an oil press, mills, granaries, wine presses, cellars and cisterns.
Festivities of l'Eliana
Activity
L'Eliana celebrates its patronal festival from the first weekend of July to the 17th, in honour of the Virgen del Carmen (16 July) and the Cristo del Consuelo (17 July), with cordà, music and processions.
Tower of el Virrey de L'Eliana
Monument
A historic tower listed within the protected heritage of L'Eliana, along with other features such as the Masía del Pilar, which document the traditional farming use of the municipal district.
Old Hermitage of San Elías and Santa Ana of L'Eliana
Monument
The hermitage of San Elías y Santa Ana de L'Eliana (El Camp de Túria, Valencia), included in the municipal catalogue of protected assets, was originally an agricultural storehouse belonging to the village's Carmelite convent, around 1600. After the Carmelites left, local residents provisionally converted it into a chapel dedicated to San Elías, though it lost importance when the church of Nuestra Señora del Carmen was built in 1894. By the Civil War it had already lost its religious use, and today it is one of the last vestiges of the former Carmelite convent; the building currently houses a restaurant business.
Park of la Pinada de L'Eliana
Nature
The Parc de la Pinada de L'Eliana, opened in 1991, covers 37,000 square metres, of which 22,000 are green space, with a duck and swan pond, decorative fountains and a small stream; it is one of the municipality's most valued green lungs. Its grounds hold various areas, such as the Espai Vicent Tarrazona, the plaza de Europa, a sociocultural centre, an auditorium, an open-air summer cinema and a swimming pool.
