What to see and do in Vilamarxant

Vilamarxant
Village
A municipality in the comarca of El Camp de Túria, in the province of Valencia, situated on the right bank of the Turia river, at the point where it leaves the mountainous area to enter the Valencian pre-coastal plain; it forms part of the second ring of Valencia's metropolitan area. Its territory, with rugged terrain where mountains occupy more than half the surface area, preserves the remains of an 11th-century Arab defensive tower at the highest point of the old town, and an underground Islamic cistern, restored and open to visitors. A late-19th-century bridge spans about two hundred and fifty metres across the Turia to connect it with Llíria. It has 11,403 inhabitants (INE, 2025), also spread across developments such as La Balsilla or Monte Horquera.

Monument
Neoclassical church with a Latin-cross floor plan, 35 meters high and six chapels, built between 1887 and its blessing on the 24th of November 1900, on the site of a former mosque, at the highest point of the old town next to the remains of the Arab wall.
Defensive tower of the castle of Vilamarxant
Monument
The ruins of an 11th-century tower of Arab origin at the highest point of the old town, with a keep and the remains of the wall that closed off the old parade ground.
Arab cistern of Vilamarxant
Monument
An underground cistern of the Islamic period, restored and open to visitors, with a chamber divided into three connected compartments and a vaulted roof, evidence of the municipality's Arab water engineering.
Bridge over the Túria River of Vilamarxant
Monument
A civil engineering bridge some 250 metres long built at the end of the 19th century to span the River Túria and link Vilamarxant with Llíria.
Trail of el Agua de Vilamarxant
Activity
Route along the river Turia, in Vilamarxant (El Camp de Túria, Valencia), showing historic irrigation ditches, aqueducts, weirs and water dividers, as well as the old Central Hidroeléctrica de la Pea. The harnessing of the Turia's water by means of this network of canals and irrigation works that the route follows goes back to Roman civilisation, which used them to transform the area's agriculture.
