What to see and do in Benimeli

Benimeli
Village
Benimeli is one of the smallest municipalities in la Marina Alta, in the northeast of the province of Alicante, with 474 inhabitants, situated in the Sierra de Segaria, of which it occupies the highest point, which is why its trails are the area's main attraction for hikers. Founded by the Arabs, who gave it the name banī Mālik, sons of Malik, it was conquered by the troops of James I; the first documented reference dates from 1242, when the king granted P. Martínez de Sarvisa a house and lands in the alquería. Over the course of the 13th and 14th centuries the place changed owners several times. The village lies 14 kilometres from Dénia and is reached by the N-332 road or the A-7 motorway, at the Ondara exit.
