Robregordo
Village
Robregordo is one of the highest and least populated villages in the Community of Madrid, with 79 residents at 1,299 metres, on the border with the province of Segovia, within the Sierra Norte. Its origin goes back to the Reconquista, when the Comunidad de Villa y Tierra de Sepúlveda resettled the territory; the first building was an inn serving travellers on the Camino Real through the Somosierra pass, which brought royal privileges and inns and muleteers. Until 1697 it formed a single municipality with Somosierra and Colladillo. In the 19th century, the abandonment of the Camino Real and a new road 150 metres to the west brought depopulation. It preserves the church of Santa Catalina, from the 17th century, with three naves on wooden supports, and the old forge, now converted into lodging.
