What to see and do in Tielmes

Tielmes
Village
Tielmes is a village in the Community of Madrid, of about 2,960 inhabitants, situated right in the fertile vega of the Tajuña river and surrounded by the hills and plateaus that form the Alcarria de Alcalá. Its main place of worship is the Risco de los Mártires, where tradition holds that the inhabitants took refuge from the harassment of the Roman authorities; at its foot a hermitage was erected in the second half of the 18th century, dedicated to the child martyr saints Justo y Pastor, patrons of the village, whose festival is celebrated every 6 August. A house-museum and former rural school, built in the 19th century on the site of the demolished church, recreates rural life among the vineyards and grain fields of the comarca. In the mid-19th century it had barely 982 inhabitants.
