Valdilecha
Village
Valdilecha is a locality in the Alcarria de Alcalá, in the southeast of the Comunidad de Madrid, with about 3,290 inhabitants and an area of 42.48 square kilometres at the confluence of the cereal-growing Campiña and the valley of the river Tajuña. The village's name already appears in a document signed in Palencia on 25 March 1190 by King Alfonso VIII, who included it in the Sexmo de Tajuña of the Comunidad de Ciudad y Tierra de Segovia, before it came under the archbishopric of Toledo in 1214; Felipe II granted it the title of town in 1556, when its topographical surveys credited it with about 800 inhabitants. Its church of San Martín Obispo, from the 13th century, preserves Mudejar work in the original paintings of its apse and is protected as a cultural asset. The forest park of Valdilecha, a reforestation pine wood from 1953, offers hiking trails beside the manantial de El Rejal spring and the Barranco de la Cueva ravine.
