Ambite
Village
Ambite is a village of about 730 inhabitants in the southeast of the Community of Madrid, in the Tajuña valley, near the border with Guadalajara; it belongs to the natural comarca of La Alcarria and to the Madrid comarca of Las Vegas. After the reconquest of Alcalá de Henares in 1118, it appears documented in 1124 as Ambith et Balmores, a name that joined Ambite with the neighbouring hamlet of Valmores, depopulated according to legend by a curse; in the mid-17th century it came to be called Villahermosa de Ambite, when its viscounty was created in 1666. The village stands on the banks of the Tajuña, at 682 metres of altitude, with a Baroque palace from 1623, the 16th-century church of the Asunción and a stone bridge over the river dated 1756; the old Tajuña railway line runs through its territory.
Palace of Ambite
Monument
A baroque mansion built in 1623 by the Marquises of Legarda beside a thousand-year-old holm oak; its garden and its 17th-century facade make it the most notable civil building in this small town of the upper Tajuña in the Madrid region.

Nature
A holm oak a thousand years old growing beside the town's palace and listed in the Region of Madrid's inventory of notable trees, created in 1992 to protect specimens of exceptional size, age or historical value.
Greenway of the Tajuña
Activity
The Vía Verde del Tajuña is a cycling and walking route of about 49 kilometres that starts in Arganda del Rey and ends in Ambite, in the Comunidad de Madrid, following the route of the old Tajuña sugar-beet railway, opened in 1901 and closed to passengers in 1953; it runs parallel to the river through a landscape of vegas and brings travellers close to towns with rich traditions such as Morata de Tajuña, Tielmes and Carabaña. After leaving Arganda and climbing to the Valderrivas cement works, it descends to Morata de Tajuña and continues through Perales de Tajuña, Tielmes and Carabaña to Ambite, with the old station converted into a bar and municipal swimming pool. The route, opened in 2007, is paved and signposted, although on some stretches it is shared with motor vehicles.
