Ambite Village · Ambite, Las Vegas, Madrid Ambite is a village of about 730 inhabitants in the southeast of the Community of Madrid, in the Tajuña valley, near the border with Guadalajara; it belongs to the natural comarca of La Alcarria and to the Madrid comarca of Las Vegas. After the reconquest of Alcalá de Henares in 1118, it appears documented in 1124 as Ambith et Balmores, a name that joined Ambite with the neighbouring hamlet of Valmores, depopulated according to legend by a curse; in the mid-17th century it came to be called Villahermosa de Ambite, when its viscounty was created in 1666. The village stands on the banks of the Tajuña, at 682 metres of altitude, with a Baroque palace from 1623, the 16th-century church of the Asunción and a stone bridge over the river dated 1756; the old Tajuña railway line runs through its territory.
