What to see and do in Senan

Senan
Village
Senan is a small rural municipality of the Conca de Barberà —although geographically it belongs to les Garrigues— with 47 inhabitants (INE 2025), at more than 650 metres above sea level and devoted to dry farming: barley, olive and almond trees. In 1139 it belonged to the lord Guerau de Granyena, who in 1167 ceded it to the monastery of Montserrat; the monks built the church and repopulated the area, but the distance made administration difficult, and in 1264 the abbot sold the territory to the monastery of Poblet, under whose rule it remained until 1811. Its parish church of Santa Maria, Romanesque from the 12th and 13th centuries, was built under the influence of Montserrat and preserves a doorway with graduated arches. The main festival is celebrated on 15 and 16 August.
