What to see and do in Solivella

Solivella
Village
Solivella is a municipality of the Conca de Barberà, in the province of Tarragona, at 489 metres above sea level, already documented in 1058 as Puig de Solivella. In the mid-12th century it was repopulated by Gombau d'Oluja, lord of Vallfogona, who built a small castle now in ruins, damaged during the Carlist Wars and demolished by the town council in 1915; the cistern in its courtyard is preserved, still used as a water tank. In 1599 Philip III created the barony of Solivella. The parish church of the Assumption, in Gothic style, was built in 1769 using stone from the previous Romanesque church on the site, and held an altarpiece, the Mare de Déu de Solivella, now in Tarragona cathedral. The economy revolves around agriculture, especially vineyards, and the main festival is held in mid-August.
