What to see and do in els Omells de na Gaia

Els Omells de na Gaia
Village
Els Omells de na Gaia is a municipality in the comarca of Urgell, in Lleida, situated in the Sierra del Tallat, on a hill 560 metres high, and formerly belonging to the barony of the monastery of Vallbona de les Monges. It grew up around a castle of which only wall remains survive today, with concentric streets descending along the slope. Its parish church of Santa María, documented since 1154, occupies an 18th-century building with side chapels and an octagonal bell tower. During the Civil War, the Republic's Military Intelligence Service installed here Labour Camp No. 3, where hundreds of people suffered captivity and many died, among them militants of the CNT-AIT and the POUM. It also preserves bunkers from the war. It has 126 inhabitants (INE 2025).
