Blancafort
Village
Blancafort is a rural municipality of Conca de Barberà, in the province of Tarragona, documented since 1207, when a castle is already mentioned, of which today only the name survives in carrer del Castell. It was walled in the 14th century and suffered attacks by the troops of Philip V during the War of the Spanish Succession and looting by Napoleonic troops under General Suchet during the Peninsular War. Its parish church of Santa Magdalena, in late baroque style with a neoclassical façade, stands on the remains of a Romanesque temple. The village preserves houses from the late 18th century, such as Can Minguella. In this comarca of arbequina olive groves, milled in cooperative presses between November and January, a mild fruity oil is produced. It has 392 inhabitants (INE 2025).
Church of Blancafort
Monument
Church of Santa Magdalena, of ample proportions, begun in 1793 and finished in 1804 in Baroque style; it was set on fire by French troops in 1808 by order of General Suchet. It preserves a tombstone of Josep Anton de Minguella, the promoter and financier of the building work.
Olive oil of the Conca
Food and drink
The arbequina olive groves of the field margins and the dry lands of the comarca are milled in cooperative oil mills between November and January. The resulting oil, of mild fruitiness, accompanies toast, escalivadas and the stews of the local cooking.
