What to see and do in Masllorenç

Masllorenç
Village
Masllorenç is a rural municipality in the interior of the Baix Penedès, on the border with the Alt Camp, dominated by arbequina olive groves whose oil, pressed between November and January, accompanies the escalivadas and the cocas baked for festivals. It is believed to have arisen under the protection of the castle of Puigtinyós, sheltering a small settlement of shepherds; it appears documented for the first time in 1365 as Mas de Lorent. The parish church, dedicated to San Ramón, was built in 1774 over a 1582 chapel dedicated to the Virgin of the Rosary, in neoclassical style with a Latin-cross plan. The main festival is celebrated on the first weekend of August, and in winter San Ramón de Peñafort is celebrated.
Church of Masllorenç
Monument
Sant Ramon de Masllorenç is the parish church of Masllorenç, in the Baix Penedès, dedicated to Sant Ramon de Penyafort. It is an 18th-century Baroque building with a Latin-cross floor plan, with an octagonal dome over the crossing topped by an angel-shaped weathervane. The sober main façade opens with a semicircular arch of voussoired stone. It was built from a chapel begun between 1582 and 1602; the dome dates from 1776 and the church was blessed in 1780, gaining parish status in 1804 when it separated from Puigtinyós. In 1813 its archive was plundered and burned by retreating French troops, and in 1855 the present bell tower was raised. It was restored in 1975 and declared a Bien de Interés Cultural (Spain's highest level of heritage protection) on 15 December 1982.
