Bonastre
Village
Bonastre is a municipality in the province of Tarragona, in the Baix Penedès comarca, with 777 inhabitants, documented since 1011 as Alastro in the will of Viscount Guitard of Barcelona; it became independent as a parish separate from Albinyana in 1296. In 1178 its lord, Bernat de Papiol, donated it to the monastery of Sant Cugat, which held the lordship until the 17th century, although the crown formally recovered it in 1382. In 1822, because of its absolutist sympathies, it was attacked by liberal militiamen, who were later defeated by absolutist troops. It lives mainly on the vine, and preserves the Casa del Delme, from between 1167 and 1300, with features of medieval fortification, and the parish church of Santa Magdalena, from the 19th century, whose baptistery and tabernacle are the work of the architect Josep Maria Jujol.

Monument
Church of Santa Maria Magdalena, patron saint of the parish documented since at least 1726; the current building was constructed between 1833 and 1850 in classicizing Baroque style, with a cross plan, a single nave and interconnected side chapels. It preserves the wrought-iron tabernacle and the baptismal font, both 1944 works by the architect Josep M. Jujol.
