What to see and do in Vilaplana

Vilaplana
Village
Vilaplana is a mountain municipality in the comarca of Baix Camp, in Tarragona, at 366 metres of altitude (with a maximum of 1,071 m at La Mussara), at the foot of the Serra de la Mussara, in the Muntanyes de Prades. Documented since 1297 as Villam Planam, it formed part of the county of Prades and in 1714 was attacked by Philippist troops for giving shelter to followers of Carrasclet. Its church, dedicated to the Nativity of Our Lady, was built between 1736 and 1739 over an earlier Romanesque temple, with a bell tower from 1744. On the eve of Epiphany, children go out into the street dragging tin cans, in the tradition known as passar el rastre. Its fiesta mayor is celebrated on 8 September, although in some years it is moved to 12 October. It has 549 inhabitants (INE 2025).
