What to see and do in Almoster

Almoster
Village
Almoster is a municipality in the Baix Camp, in Tarragona, about 5-6 km from Reus, situated at 300 metres altitude in an area ranging between 200 and 702 metres, on the foothills of the Prades mountains. Its name may derive from the Arabic al Munastir, border convent, although it is not documented until 1582; in the Middle Ages it was walled, though no remains survive today, and it had an important Jewish community. From 1547 it was part of the Comuna del Camp de Tarragona, and in 1710 it sided with Archduke Charles. Its church of Sant Miquel obtained the privilege of a baptismal font in 1573; the main festivals are dedicated to Sants Abdó i Senén, on 30 July, and to Saint Michael the Archangel, on 29 September.
