What to see and do in Maspujols

Maspujols
Village
Maspujols is the smallest municipal area in Baix Camp, with only 3.4 square kilometres, located at 214 metres of altitude, in the province of Tarragona. First mentioned in 1175, when King Alfonso II of Aragon granted Berenguer d'Oms the area of Rocabruna, the origin of the village's nucleus, it formed part of the county of Prades from its creation in 1324 and achieved administrative independence from l'Aleixar in 1625. It suffered two lootings, in 1720, during a clash with Carrasclet's guerrillas, and in 1811, at the hands of Napoleonic troops. Its parish church, dedicated to Saint Mary, has a baroque portal and bell tower. The economy is based on dry farming - hazelnut and olive trees - and on irrigation from the Riudecanyes reservoir. It has 915 inhabitants (INE 2025).
Church of Maspujols
Monument
Church of Santa María de Maspujols, with elegant lines, and a portal and bell tower in Baroque style, in the smallest municipality by area in the Baix Camp. According to tradition, precisely because of the smallness of the municipal district, the main altar ended up located on the land of the neighbouring municipality of l'Aleixar.
