What to see and do in Arbolí

Arbolí
Village
Arbolí is a mountain municipality in the Baix Camp, in the province of Tarragona, nestled at 714 metres altitude in a hollow between the Serra de Colls and its own ravine, with just 138 inhabitants. It preserves houses with voussoired doorways from the 17th and 18th centuries, among them Cal Arrel, with round arches, considered the oldest building in the hamlet; tradition attributes to the Moors the archway of the village fountain and the medieval tower known as Torre dels Moros. The municipal territory is part of the Prades mountains and rises above 1000 metres at Puig de Gallicant, one of the favourite spots for climbing. It belonged to the old county of Prades and to the comarca of Priorat, until it was incorporated into the Baix Camp in 1989.
Tower of els Moros d'Arbolí
Monument
A watchtower located in the municipal area of Arbolí, in Baix Camp, near Gallicant, declared bien cultural de interés nacional (Spain's highest level of heritage protection). Of the original construction only the northeast corner survives, made of well-carved ashlar of considerable size, some with a rusticated finish. The tower measured about five by five metres, and the surviving corner reaches almost nine metres in height; the rest of the remains are largely hidden among the undergrowth. Tradition attributes to the Moors both this tower, also known as that of Manel, and the arch of the nearby village fountain.
