What to see and do in Montbrió del Camp

Montbrió del Camp
Village
Montbrió del Camp is a municipality in the market-garden area of Baix Camp, in Tarragona, with 3,157 inhabitants (INE 2025) and several watchtowers within its territory. It formed part of the castellany of Cambrils until well into the 17th century: in 1274 James I exempted its residents from Cambrils's walls in exchange for walling their own town within a year, and in 1622, after an agreement between the two towns, Montbrió split off as an independent municipality. It lives from agriculture, with olive, almond and carob trees and vines, from which it produces its own moscatel. The Renaissance parish church of San Pedro was built in 1692 and preserves an 18th-century baroque organ. In 1980 thermal waters were discovered in its territory, which led to a spa hotel built in the 1990s.
Tower of el Mas de l'Hereu
Monument
The Torre del Mas de l'Hereu is a circular tower built around 1591 to defend against the increasingly frequent attacks of Berber corsairs on the Catalan coast, with a ground floor, two upper storeys and a lookout crowned with battlements and machicolations. It forms part of the Mas de l'Hereu, a farmhouse whose origins go back to the 12th century, today divided into two properties together with the Mas Llambert, with a first noble floor of two halls and an interior courtyard with porches and a cloister, as well as a large pond. The complex, restored, was fitted out with rooms for rural tourism; the tower retains four storeys and a sundial dated 1609.
Tower of la Closa
Monument
The Torre de la Closa, 5.40 metres high by 4.60 metres wide with walls about 90 centimetres thick, rises above one of the arcades that form the facade of the Montbrió del Camp town hall, covered by a semicircular vault through which the Carrer de la Closa passes. A medieval defence tower that probably formed part of the 14th-century walled precinct, its upper part is in ruins, but the rear facade reveals its original masonry, of unsquared stone bonded with lime mortar, and it retains, at first-floor height, a window with a voussoired semicircular arch, also voussoired jambs and a stone sill.
