What to see and do in el Milà

El Milà
Village
El Milà is a small municipality in the comarca of Alt Camp, in the province of Tarragona, located on the right bank of the Francolí, at an altitude of 166 metres; for almost a century it has not exceeded 200 inhabitants. Its origin lies around 1065, in the fief of Ponç de Montoliu, and in 1391 King John I ceded his feudal rights to the Archbishop of Tarragona. The village preserves a castle, owned by the Veciana-Sainz de la Torre family, with an old Gothic chapel attached, dedicated to Saint Ursula, possibly from the 18th century; after a cyclone brought down its bell tower in 1909, the present parish church was built between 1910 and 1912. It celebrates its festa major on the weekend closest to 15 May, Saint Isidore's day, and that of Saint Ursula on the third Sunday of October.
Castle of el Milà
Monument
Castle located on the plaça del Castell, in the centre of the town of el Milà (Alt Camp, Tarragona), next to the parish church, at 162 metres above sea level. It is a large building of popular architecture and rectangular plan, with a voussoired entrance door reached by a flight of steps, four large windows on the first floor and a gallery of seven round arches with windows at the corners on the second. A small single-nave church, which may have been its original chapel, is attached to it. Its medieval origin is placed between 1066 and 1160, and it is documented since 1490, with possible military uses in the 18th century. It is private property of the Calà Magrané family and is declared a cultural asset of national interest.
El Milà Main Festival
Activity
The fiesta mayor of el Milà is celebrated on the weekend closest to 15 May, the feast day of San Isidro; the town also has a festivity for Santa Úrsula, patron saint of the church, on the third Sunday of October.
