What to see and do in Ivorra

Ivorra
Village
Ivorra is a municipality in the comarca of la Segarra, in the province of Lleida, with barely 100 inhabitants and at 567 metres of altitude, on the border with l'Anoia and el Solsonès. The place name is already documented in the 11th century, of pre-Roman origin, possibly Ibero-Basque. The settlement, of medieval appearance, was a closed vila whose urban layout is preserved to the west of the castle, of which only the keep remains visible, known as the torre de Ivorra, raised around the year 1000 and about twenty metres high. Ivorra was one of the few villages in la Segarra with two parish churches in the same settlement, and the second, dedicated to Santa Maria, is today the sanctuary of the Sant Dubte.
Castle of Ivorra
Monument
Castle built around the year 1000, of which only the keep survives, about 20 meters high, at the highest point of the old walled town.
Sant Dubte of Ivorra
Historical milestone
Tradition places around 1010, in the original Romanesque church of Santa Maria dels afores in Ivorra, a eucharistic episode: the priest Bernat Oliver, doubting the presence of Christ in the Eucharist, saw blood flow from a chalice that contained only wine. A year later, San Ermengol of Urgel travelled to Rome, where Pope Sergius IV confirmed the truth of the miracle with a bull, kept the chalice and gave several relics in exchange. The event, documented since 1426, gave rise to the sanctuary of the Sant Dubte, a place of pilgrimage since the Middle Ages. The church of Ivorra preserved a Gothic altarpiece from 1480 depicting scenes of the miracle, moved in 1917 to the Diocesan Museum of Solsona, which in 2016 dedicated an exhibition to the millennium of the Sant Dubte.
