What to see and do in Sales de Llierca

Sales de Llierca
Village
Sales de Llierca is a mountain municipality in the north of the Garrotxa comarca, in the province of Girona, located 43 kilometres from the capital. Besides the town of the same name, which stands at 261 metres, it includes the settlements of El Guitarriu, Sadernes-Sant Grau and Sant Miquel de Monteia. It has 164 inhabitants. The northern part of the municipality, in the Alta Garrotxa, is rugged and rises above 1,100 metres, while the south, already in the Fluvià valley, is flatter; through it flow the Llierca river, which gives it its name, and the Borró stream. Its economy is based on dryland farming, with cereals and potatoes, and on cattle and pig farming.
Castle of Sales
Monument
Sales castle, from the 11th-15th centuries with a central tower and a circular south-west tower 10 m high, overlooks the Fluvià valley from the foothills of les Entreperes; partly in ruins, it has been an Asset of National Cultural Interest since 8 November 1988 (BCIN 1386-MH).
