What to see and do in Sant Jaume de Llierca

Sant Jaume de Llierca
Village
Sant Jaume de Llierca is an industrial municipality in the north of the Garrotxa, in the province of Girona, with 863 inhabitants (INE 2025), located at the confluence of the Llierca and Fluvià rivers. Its economy combines cereal farming with the sausage and meat preserves industry. The first documented mention is from 940, for the purchase of an estate by Ava, countess of Besalú; formerly known as Palau de Montagut, in 1928 the diocese of Girona established a parish there, and two years later the town adopted its current name. The parish church, with a red ceramic dome, preserves two wooden carvings from the 16th or 17th century, and the village keeps the ruins of the castle of Montpalau and the hermitage of Santa Magdalena, from 1228.
