Ordis
Village
Ordis is a small rural village on the plain of the Alto Ampurdán, in the province of Gerona, crossed by the Àlguema stream, a tributary of the Manol, and which also includes the neighbouring settlement of Pols. Called Ordeos in the Middle Ages, in the modern era it formed part, together with Navata, Espinavessa and La Palma, of the barony of Navata, dependent on the count of Perelada, whose arms appear on the coat of arms alongside ears of barley, alluding to the village's name, since barley is called ordi in Catalan. The original parish church was Sant Nicolau, 12th-century Romanesque, until in the 15th century the seat passed to Sant Julià i Santa Basilissa, renovated in the 18th. It also preserves the old hospital of Santa Caterina, from the 16th century. Its economy is agricultural and livestock-based. It has 409 inhabitants.
