Pontós
Village
Pontós is a small village in the Alt Empordà set in a valley at the confluence of the Muga and Fluvià rivers, with the streams of Pontós, Santa Ana and Àlguema. Its municipal area, with flat relief, lives from irrigated and dry-farmed crops and from livestock farming. On the main square, 16th-century manor houses are preserved, and on top of a nearby hill the remains of the castle survive. The village also preserves the 12th-century Romanesque-style church of San Medor y San Celoni, the 18th-century church of San Martín and the 16th-17th century hermitage of Santa Ana. In its municipal area lies the Mas Castellar archaeological site, one of the most important in the Ampurdán, with an Iberian settlement and pieces from the 6th to 2nd centuries BC. It has 296 inhabitants (INE 2025).
