Navata
Village
Navata is a municipality in the Alt Empordà, on the boundary with the Pla de l'Estany comarca, located between the Manol and Fluvià rivers, near the Garrotxa. Watered by the Manol, it retains an old quarter with 17th- and 18th-century houses with carved lintels, and is a waypoint on the cycle path that follows the river's course. Its parish of Sant Pere is documented since 1019, and the lords of Navata appear cited in texts since 1089; in the 13th century, after the marriage of Ermessenda de Navata to Dalmau de Rocabertí, the barony passed to the viscountal family of Rocabertí. In 1846 the municipality incorporated the area of Canelles. Its economy, traditionally agricultural and livestock-based -with wheat, olive groves and pine woods-, has diversified with the Torremirona golf course.
