What to see and do in Santa Llogaia d'Àlguema

Santa Llogaia d'Àlguema
Village
Santa Llogaia d'Àlguema is a small, quiet village on the plain of the Alt Empordà, in the province of Girona, very close to Figueres, bathed by the riera d'Àlguema and by the Manol, ideal for walking among the cultivated fields. It has 396 inhabitants, and its economy rests on the growing of cereals and vegetables and on cattle and pig farming; in the past it also had a craft tradition of wicker and reed work, owing to the abundance of reed beds along the riera. The place is documented since the year 1020, when it was called Horto Medio in the will of Count Bernat Tallaferro; by 1105 it was already named Sanctae Leocadiae, and it was not until the 12th century that Àlguema was added. It belonged to the monastery of Santa Maria de Ripoll and retains the church of Santa Leocadia, from the 18th century.
