Sant Antoni de Vilamajor
Village
Sant Antoni de Vilamajor is a municipality in the Vallès Oriental, on the southern slope of the Montseny, at 258 metres above sea level, with 6,724 inhabitants. Formerly called Vilanova de Vilamajor, it separated from Sant Pere de Vilamajor on 29 December 1822 to become an independent municipality, adopting its current name in honour of its co-patron saint, Sant Antoni Abat. It preserves the church of Sant Antoni, from the 18th century, destroyed during the Civil War and rebuilt on another site in the 1940s; the hermitage of Sant Lliser, from the early 14th century, and the church of Sant Julià d'Alfou, from the 12th century. The riera de Vilamajor crosses the municipality from north to south until it meets the Mogent river.
