What to see and do in Sant Sadurní d'Osormort

Sant Sadurní d'Osormort
Village
Sant Sadurní d'Osormort is a rural municipality in the Collsacabra, in the Osona comarca, in the valley of the Major stream, formerly the riera d'Osor, surrounded by Viladrau, Espinelves, Vilanova de Sau, Sant Julià de Vilatorta, Folgueroles and Tavèrnoles, with mostly forested and pasture land. In 1698 it formed, together with Espinelves, a batllia of the Vic viguerie of the viscounty of Cabrera; the provincial division of the early nineteenth century separated Espinelves, assigned to Girona, from Sant Sadurní, which passed to Barcelona and became an independent municipality in 1834. It preserves Meda Castle and the parish church, Romanesque and from the eleventh century, as well as farmhouses such as Masferrer, from the seventeenth century, with a sgraffito façade.
Castle of Meda
Monument
The castle of Meda, or Sameda, crowns a bare hill with steep slopes near the coll de Meda, in the municipality of Sant Sadurní d'Osormort; today only some stretches of wall remain, five or six courses of squared rubble bonded with lime mortar, which enclosed the precinct. It has been documented since the year 992 alongside the castle of Sant Llorenç, which it replaced around 1007 as the reference point of the district comprising the present-day municipalities of Sant Julià de Vilatorta, Folgueroles, Sant Sadurní d'Osormort, Espinelves and Calldetenes. Lordship of the castle was in the hands of the counts of Barcelona until they sold it to the Gurb-Queralt family, and it later passed to the bishopric of Vic, whose bishops were eminent lords of the place until the disappearance of the jurisdictional lordships.
