Castle of Meda Monument · Sant Sadurní d'Osormort, Osona, Barcelona The castle of Meda, or Sameda, crowns a bare hill with steep slopes near the coll de Meda, in the municipality of Sant Sadurní d'Osormort; today only some stretches of wall remain, five or six courses of squared rubble bonded with lime mortar, which enclosed the precinct. It has been documented since the year 992 alongside the castle of Sant Llorenç, which it replaced around 1007 as the reference point of the district comprising the present-day municipalities of Sant Julià de Vilatorta, Folgueroles, Sant Sadurní d'Osormort, Espinelves and Calldetenes. Lordship of the castle was in the hands of the counts of Barcelona until they sold it to the Gurb-Queralt family, and it later passed to the bishopric of Vic, whose bishops were eminent lords of the place until the disappearance of the jurisdictional lordships.
