Tavèrnoles
Village
Tavèrnoles is a municipality in the Osona comarca, near the Sau reservoir, in the Collsacabra, formed by the former parishes of Sant Pere and Savassona. The place name is documented from the tenth century as Tavernulas, from the Latin tabernulas, referring to the stopping points of the Roman road that ran from Ausa to Bàrcino; the traditional name, replaced under Francoism, was restored in 1983. The small village settlement sits on the western slope of the Savassona mountain range, at 537 meters, before the climb up to the castle, and consists of half a dozen old houses and a rural inn. Tavèrnoles was always the religious center of the barony of Savassona, with Sant Pere de Savassona as a subsidiary church. The municipality, covering 18.77 km², concentrates 90% of its 315 inhabitants (2013) in this area.
