What to see and do in Sant Iscle de Vallalta

Sant Iscle de Vallalta
Village
Sant Iscle de Vallalta is a municipality in the Maresme, in the province of Barcelona, with an area of 17.72 km², of which 800 hectares lie within the Montnegre i el Corredor natural park. At Pla dels Forcs stands the Pedra de les Olles, a granite rock with up to 25 carved cup-marks from the late Neolithic, the oldest evidence of human presence in the municipality. Its church, dedicated to Saint Acisclus, the patron saint who gives the town its name, was consecrated in the 11th century; the place name already appears in the 15th-century fogatges, when it included present-day Canet de Mar, separated in 1579. The Catalan name was restored in 1933 after the Castilianisation, and definitively in 1983. Every second fortnight of May the strawberry festival is held. It has 1,477 inhabitants.

Megaliths of Pla dels Forcs
Curiosity
The rock known as Pedra de les Olles is found at Pla dels Forcs, at the confluence of the municipalities of Vallgorguina, Arenys de Munt and Sant Iscle de Vallalta, in the Maresme; it is reached from Sant Iscle de Vallalta by a path that climbs past les Dones d'Aigua and Can Maresme. Roughly triangular in plan, it has a large central basin 40 centimetres in diameter and 6 deep, surrounded by a total of 25 carved cup-marks joined by channels. It is attributed to the middle or final Neolithic and to the Chalcolithic. It was documented in the 2008 survey carried out to revise the archaeological record of the Maresme, and it appears in the Inventory of the Archaeological and Palaeontological Heritage of Catalonia.
